A Reflective Journal for the Community of Self Practitioner

Explore. Reflect. Restore. Become. Discover the Practitioner Within

Every therapeutic encounter begins with the relationship we have with ourselves.

The Inner Counsel is a beautifully designed reflective journal inspired by Dr. Na'im

Akbar's The Community of Self, inviting therapists, counsellors, arts therapists, psychologists, social workers, coaches and helping professionals to journey through the nine elements of the Community of Self.

Rather than focusing solely on clinical techniques, this journal encourages practitioners to explore the internal landscape that shapes compassionate, culturally responsive and ethically grounded practice. This is more than reflection.

It is a journey towards Sakhu, the illuminated, authentic self…spirit.

    Why This Journal is Different.

Most reflective journals ask: "What happened?"

This journal asks: Who was I becoming in that moment?

Drawing on African-centred Black Psychology, The Inner Counsel moves beyond problem-solving towards restoration, dignity and collective wellbeing.

    The Journal Helps You

Develop culturally responsive practice ✓ Deepen self-awareness

Strengthen ethical decision-making ✓ Explore identity and values

Build reflective supervision skills ✓ Reduce practitioner burnout through intentional reflection

    Sacred Symbols

Each chapter opens with an original symbolic illustration inspired by African spirituality, sacred geometry and Black Psychology.

These symbols have been thoughtfully created to represent the 7 core elements and 3 additional aspects for reflection and progression:
